Field of Crosses

Sunday, September 23, was a day of celebrating life at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Newport. Organized by the Sts. Peter and Paul/St. Michael Respect Life Committee, the event inaugurated a month-long field of crosses memorial near the church.

Highlighting the day was an inspirational address by a father who related the story of being urged by his doctor to abort his daughter, diagnosed with a severe deformity and doomed to a "low quality of life." The speech culminated with the introduction of his daughter: now seventeen, a straight-A student and in excellent health.

Attendees prayed and witnessed the blessing of the crosses, which symbolize the thousands of babies lost each year to abortion. The field of crosses will remain erected through the month of October.
